Greenstone Kiwi Creations - Very Large New Zealand Greenstone Toki
The "Toki" signifies strength and courage. The toki was a adze - a chisel which was used by the Maori not only to carve the mighty wakas (canoes) but make the very fine designs in their meeting houses.
This Toki is huge - See the accompanying photograph - it is 120 mm tall by 40 mm wide and is about 7 mm thickness.
The greenstone (pounamu) used is from NZ and hand carved here as well.
This is genuine New Zealand Pounamu (Greenstone), sourced and hand carved in Aotearoa (New Zealand).
Pounamu has great cultural significance to the Maori and is believed to enhance mana (prestige) of its possessor. When received as a gift Pounamu is said to gain value as a special treasure.
